VaxStock, a weekend of the live music and gatherings of good friends we have looked forward to resuming at Makepeace Manor. Please check out the info below and join the fun if you can. Note this is a more mid-day and evening than night-focused event, and that it offers something on each of three days Friday to Sunday. The more time you can spend here the better! All of the musicians are bringing amazing talent that you will enjoy.
As things improve, we are cautiously and consciously reviving Makepeace Manor as a gathering place. We are only able to do this thanks to the tireless and impressive work of scientists, medical professionals, social workers, and volunteers who have developed vaccines and gotten them into many of our arms. In HONOR of those amazing people, the weekend of July 16-18 is being declared VaxStock at Makepeace Manor and our subdivision, Lakepeace Harbour.
FRIDAY
8:00 -- DAVE TASCHMAN
Doors open at 7:00 Friday, with acoustic sets by the pool that evening, including Dave Taschman at 8:00, and some curated live concert audio in between.
Jamming as suits ya to follow. We may bring some tunes from the Brewster von Thyme Songbook to life.
SATURDAY
12:00 SWAMPGRASS
2:00 ABBY SCHAFFER
3:00 ON THE BUS
7:00 MERCY ALLIANCE 8:30 SHAKE THE TREE
Saturday will be afternoon-to-early-evening focused, and starts high noonish with Jake Younger and his SWAMPGRASS bandmates, followed by a fresh set of awesome by ABBY SCHAFFER. Our headliner ON THE BUS, a premier Grateful Dead cover band that has played here a couple of times already, will be playing from around 3-7. And then we are super excited to welcome MERCY ALLIANCE, thanks to Andrew Ratliff's outreach. Finally, Kevin Cosgrove is a late minute add with SHAKE THE TREE, an instrumental groove jam band with jazz overtones. Jamming may well occur before and after. Please note though that Saturday is afternoon-to-early-evening focused, so come EARLY, not late!
SUNDAY
12:00 SHEILA THOMAS
2:00 THE GENTLEMAN CALLERS
Sunday starting at high noon: SHEILA THOMAS, and at 2:00, THE GENTLEMAN CALLERS, featuring Makepeace regular Larry Miesse (Clusterfunk).
Further acts may still be announced! If you have music to share or know someone that would be a great fit, please give either Michael Lang or Brewster von Thyme a shout.
POOL
Yes we have a pool! It is called Lakepeace Harbour. Grab your suit and towel. No diving, please, and no glass or smoking in the pool enclosure.
FOOD AND DRINK
Be radically self-reliant, bring extra to share, and LEAVE NO TRACE. Thanks y'all!
TENTING IN THE YARD
Sure, why not? Just ask a resident where.
R U VAXXED?
VaxStock is about celebrating the vaccine and the freedoms it is gifting to us. If you are already vaccinated, sweet! If not, you have a month to get there. Being vaccinated makes gathering possible. We recognize that some people have health, or religious, or other reasons for not being vaccinated, and respect that. At this time MpM has established separate guidelines for un-vaccinated guests and we ask any in that group to check in with the hosts in advance, towear masks when within six feet of others, and not use the indoor facilities so we can protect the community as best as we are able. Please contact Brewster in advance if special accommodations of any kind are needed.
PARKING:
Not in the driveway, please, we need it clear for performers to load and unload. Park across the street, but not on the sidewalk. Preferably park a block or so away.
KIDS? PETS? THIRD COUSINS TWICE REMOVED?
Well-behaved kids under responsible adult supervision are welcome, pets too if they are exceptionally well behaved and socialized and don't poop on the lawn.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
VaxStock is FREE to our guests! But we will have significant associated costs, so there will be a jar out and suggested contributions of $10 to $20 are greatly appreciated to cover our expenses (you can also PayPal to Brewthack@gmail.com). We also always appreciate contributions of food, drinks, art, shade structures, toiled paper and trash bags, and the like.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
The only way we can do this is with a little help from our friends. Kudos to Max Reid, the first to step up! If you are coming, plan to put some time in setting up, breaking down, cleaning up, monitoring food, keeping an eye out for safety, and welcoming strangers.
On a personal note -- sharing live music has long been Brewster’s favorite way to mark a birthday. This year that had to be postponed, but he looks forward to celebrating turning 52.25 at VaxStock -- seeing as he was born the year of the original Woodstock.
WEATHER (OR NOT)
Always a chance of rain this time of year, though MpM's particular vortex steers us clear more often than we deserve. This event will be rain or shine. In the event of serious rain or thunder, we will suspend activities for safety. Music might be moved into the Carriage House Dance Hall. The company will be good no matter what. Also, it is going to be rather hot -- please bring your sunscreen and water!
