Welcome to Makepeace Manor

Makepeace Manor, an artsy intentional community modeled on the 10 Principles of Burning Man, has been burning brightly in Alexandria, Virginia since 2010. 

 We have two houses on our acre of land, a 1928 farmhouse and a 1950 carriage house; large yards suitable for fire spinning, campouts and bocce ball; a large swimming pool; a brand new hot tub; a garden plot; lots of space for art and creativity; a Great Hall with a fireplace, movie screen and 1903 piano; laundry machines; an occasional dance hall with an exercise dance pole; and off-street parking.We are within walking distance of the beautiful Green Spring Gardens park, the tasty Foxfire Grill, and a brand new LIDL supermarket, and we’re across the street from the Lincolnia Park Recreation Club. We’re 1.5 miles from a major shopping center with a Giant, Gold’s Gym, etc., and it's a quick, direct shot into Old Town and DC. A bus a block from the house runs to the Pentagon and Metro.

 We now have our first opening in two years for a new resident, co-creator, motivator and instigator!Makepeace residents enjoy living with like-minded people, while maintaining and developing our amazing indoor and outdoor spaces as we grow through knowing and working with each other. We also are a facility for members of our larger community who come to Makepeace to socialize, organize events, make art, and build projects.If you are the kind of person who puts your whole enthusiastic self into a project because you have learned that doing so will result in the greatest rewards -- then you might find this livable community an exciting opportunity. In addition to subscribing to the 10 Principles, residents share a commitment to keeping common areas indoors and out presentable and improving them when we can; hosting and supporting events as Makepeace serves the larger Burner community; and bolstering each other in friendship. We are committed to keeping excellent relations with our neighbors.  

 The available room is an unusual upstairs space with a large closet area and charming built-in bed frame. The monthly housing payment is $750, which INCLUDES all utilities and some sweet amenities too (heat, water, electricity, WiFi, trash & recycling, and hot tub and pool maintenance supplies).
